About Actinium PharmaceuticalsSince its establishment in 1993, Florham Park, NJ based Actinium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has been focused on the development of therapeutics utilizing bismuth 213 and actinium 225. At its inception, Actinium Pharmaceuticals commenced a collaborative effort with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Energy, and the European Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU), to establish the proof of concept of Alpha Particle Immunotherapy. This team focused on the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia, and subsequent clinical studies have progressed this idea into a highly promising clinical development program that continues to expand. API’s research and development programs are currently also expanding into solid cancers. Significant developments in the company’s progress now place API in a key position to further our platform and programs. In 2004, API obtained the world-wide exclusive rights to commercialize Protein Design Labs’ anti-CD33 mAb (HuM195) for use with Ac-225 and Bi-213. Having this key license transformed our pilot Bi-213 conjugate program into our lead therapeutic candidate for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia. In 2006, API with its partners at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center began its second clinical program using the HuM195 antibody chelated to Ac-225. After years of preliminary research, which were highlighted in the prestigious journal Science, this trial marked the first time a patient has been treated with this most promising isotope. Although in early stages, the promising results further solidifies Actinium Pharmaceutical’s commitment to these programs and the patients we treat. API’s recent acquisition of a highly promising antibody that selectively targets gastric cancer expands the use of alpha emitters to solid tumors. The ability of alpha particles to kill small micrometastases is a key tool in the fight against cancer. These small packets of tumor cells are extremely difficult to eradicate with conventional therapies. API and its collaborators are working diligently to start a clinical trial for treatment of gastric as well as other solid cancers. Actinium Pharmaceuticals' success is based on its ability to combine key resources necessary for the development and commercialization of Alpha Particle Immunotherapy through its unique expertise. In addition, significant investment in isotope production further broadens our capabilities in enabling the use of Ac-225 and Bi-213 on a commercial scale.
